Estimates are not quotes

A cost figure produced here is arithmetic over the inputs you provide and the assumptions printed on that tool’s page. Real prices move with your region, the season, material availability, site access, the condition of what is already there and the individual contractor. Two quotes for the same job routinely differ by more than any calculator’s output.

Treat a result as a starting point for a conversation with a supplier or trade, and as a way to notice when a quote is far outside the range you expected. It is not evidence that a quote is wrong.

Material quantities

Layout and quantity tools assume the dimensions you enter are accurate and the surface is regular. They do not know about obstructions, out-of-square walls, joists, services behind a surface, or the waste your particular cutting plan will generate. Measure twice, allow for waste, and check the result against supplier specifications and the applicable building code before ordering or cutting.

When to ask a professional

Nothing on this site is professional advice. In particular it is not engineering, electrical, plumbing, structural, safety, legal, accounting or tax advice, and it does not substitute for a licensed inspection.

Work involving electrical circuits, gas, structural members, drainage, tree felling near property or anything requiring a permit should be specified by someone qualified and licensed for it in your jurisdiction. Where a calculator touches such work, its page says so, and that instruction takes precedence over any number it displays.

Financial organisation tools arrange figures you supply. They do not perform accounting and produce nothing suitable for filing.

Third-party sources

Where a page cites an outside source for a price range or a standard, that source is named and linked so you can check it and see when it was reviewed. Those figures belong to their publishers, may change after they were cited, and are reproduced for context rather than endorsed. External links are not recommendations, and this site does not control what those pages say.

Some tools deliberately decline to produce a money figure where no defensible source exists. That is the limit being reported honestly, not a fault.
